I said it before and i'll say it again. If TNUC produced original music or was maybe contracted at gunpoint to craft some type of upbeat, daytime-sounding composition, it's safe to say that it would sound exactly like this.

Maybe when my agent returns from Guam, we'll finally get some signatures down in ink on that lucrative deal he's been promising for years, and get started on making a record. The sound quality on this track is piss poor, apologies for that, but its the best we could salvage from the beloved Lou Ferrigno's Body Perfection workout tape.

The following song is dedicated to all you night beasts out there on the street right now. This is the song that plays after your savage night out with that that special skirt. The city is empty at this time of night, feeling like you and your trenchcoat are the only remaining survivors. You take the usual route. First walking through Chinatown over the beautiful columns of steam rising from the streets. On this particular night, your eye really catches these great clouds of vapor churning and billowing through the headlights and street lights. Then its through the inner city park, arcade, abandoned amusement park and down the deserted subway tracks. You cross over the bridge, pass the burning barrels and enter the vacant warehouse and conveyer belt factory. At last you're finally home. You are the Night Beast.

Last year you had the proud privledge of examining what a typical morning was for TNUC during his forgotten years in the dreaded 1990's. So if violently mixed protein shakes and komoto dragons aren't ringing any bells, you'd better go here first because that is your pre-requisite to watch the following clip.

...Now that you've witnessed his morning activities, we figured with the new year beginning that you righteous rulers deserve a first hand look at what could be considered a typical evening for Count TNUC. Now remember, this is a rare glimpse into the dark, forgotten decade of the 1990's in which TNUC's whereabouts were completely a mystery. During these times, the rumor mill lead to countless news headlines and tapings of Where Are They Now? Residents in Malibu, CA told reporters that TNUC's Yamaha motorbike had been parked in Tawny Kitaen's driveway for months but they had only seen him once and believed he was living in her basement, refusing to see any daylight. This allegedly went on for months up until they heard an engine start in the middle of the night and witnessed the two of them fleeing abruptly.

However, during those same years villagers on a small peninsula of South America swore that he was living and working out of a cabana down by the shore, donned each day only in a loin cloth and spending his days spear-fishing and offering rides across the river to locals. The underlying truth remained that these were dark times for TNUC. He had been so shaken up by the extreme dullness of the 1990's, not to mention being dopesick from the complete lack of quaaludes and broke from the divorce hearings and custody battles. He simply vanished into thin air.

The truth behind this lost legend had been questionable until now. The following clip provides an inside look to the low key lifestyle TNUC was forced to resort to during this dreary, uninspired decade. He gave it his all and made the best out of what was given to him. Enjoy.

I have this constant problem that each night before I go to sleep I get on my knees and ask God the same question...What is truly mightier, the sword or the saxophone? You know you have a serious fixation with a certain breed of instrument when you're turning to your faith to uncover answers. It's songs like John Parr's Two Hearts that push me to the limit and make my blood boil purely by the screeching hawk-like power of the saxophone thats introduced in the song. Most recently the song jumped several positions and landed itself a comfortable top spot at #1 on the TNUC MEGA-CHARTS mainly because of this reason.

Casual first listeners might assume that upon hearing the hook on the track that automatically repetition has set in and you've heard everything you need to hear. Well, it's you people that are in for a treat. Just wait until the 3:15 mark hits, where Parr's bandmates from future worlds deliver a saxophone/key-tar/synthesizer monstrous medley will burn you right to your core. But I assure you, its a good burn.

If you're bored or feeling like a lost wanderer because you just came back from the Galleria/Mall and found out that the dead souls running your #1 hangout spot of the week just closed down the arcade AND the orange julius, don't give up on life just yet. A good samaritan by the name of Uncle TNUC promises that there is still hope.

Actually, all credit must go to photographer Michael Galinsky, the man responsible for taking these photos (and many, many more where they came from) back in 1989 when he traveled across the country, documenting malls all the way from Long Island to North Dakota to Seattle. He ended up shooting roughly 30 rolls of slide film with a cheap Nikon FG-20 and the results are truly sensational. The remainder of the photos can be seen in this online album. The response he received from the photos has been so strong that he decided to put together a book, Malls Across America, that will be available for purchase soon.

Because the Galleria wasn't always the place you avoided. One could even say you might dare to venture into the mall on a rainy afternoon with your FAMILY. Pops is ready to tear into the night as he tests out the sit-down lawnmower at Sears, Mom's at the department store shopping for shoulder-pads, your acne-posterchild Sister is chasing down some guy she thinks is Rick Springfield, all while you're waiting in line for Van Halen tickets at Tape World and scarfing down a slice of pizza that's bigger than your head.

If a visionary collection of food courts, arcades, chrome escalators, valley girls, water fountains, big hair, long butts and male-midriff shirts sounds like the ultimate coffee table book to you, then we have a lot in common. This one will embellish the surface of TNUC's ivory & gold coffee table for many years to come.

I have come to realize after listening to Mitch Murder's new effort Current Events that this man is a Spirit Warrior. Meaning he evokes the spirit of the time period in which his music is associated with so well, with such authenticity, while bashing and thrashing through the mundane, dull, generic bargain bin of music that passes through so many social networks at a dime a dozen.

This album, much like his prior releases, doesn't beat around the 1980's bush (or muff for that matter). Meaning that Mitch doesn't hint or tease around at the sound he's emulating. He cuts right to the core. If what you've been looking for in this genre is to be teleported to an era of the utmost lushest synths, galloping bass-lines and sparkling production, then you've scored the jackpot.

'Night Train'

Keeping up with his soundtrack sound, you'll hear tracks that sound like they've been specially crafted by some monk far up in the misty Himalayan mountains which were then privately flown to a dojo in the Valley for training purposes. Other tracks will bring you on late night stakeouts, essential for driving around tailing Miami's hottest new Colombian drug-runner. Furthermore, he manages to hit you with a big emotional rush at sometime during the duration of each track.

The only fault I can find with Mitch Murder is that currently his albums are only available digitally. A stunning record like Current Events needs to be a tangible one. Yet another reason why I urge you to pick up this release, because supporting an artist like this will gain more momentum for some corporate sleaze to realize this needs to be released on CD or Vinyl. But for the time being, pick up Current Events on iTunes or Amazon.

After avenging his brother by defeating Thai kickboxing champion Tong Po, Kurt Sloan disappeared into the sunset. Rumors started to circulate that Kurt had actually been killed by Tong Po's mobsters.

It turns out that Kurt Sloan went back to the mountains to perfect his craft. He would study by day and come out only at night. He and his bandmates in Nitro held it together for a few years, playing freakishly engineered guitars and belting out glass-shattering vocals (see Jim Gillette), but disbanded in the early 90's. Just plain ol' House (1986) screens in a few weeks on the 25th at Cinefamily in Los Angeles (35mm archival print). But don't let the subtle title fool you, this house is bedrock to plenty of nightmares and ghoulish lurkers that will send shivers down your penis. Just watch the trailer with voiceover work courtesy of the late-great Percy Rodrigues. This guy could do voiceovers for diapers commercials and I'd still be curled up on the couch with the blanket pulled up to my face.

In 1987, shock-rocking W.A.S.P. frontman Blackie Lawless was approached to contribute a song to the Ghoulies 2 soundtrack. This genius marriage of music and movie couldn't have been more Grade B. The formula of a B-Metal song for a B-Horror movie works as the ideal concoction for a Saturday night Creature Feature. It's the type of movie that you sit down to watch and by the time the final credits roll, there's crushed beer cans scattered around the basement and pizza crust spinning on top of a skipping record. Possibly even a pair of panties hanging on top of a lampshade if you're lucky. In other words, Ghoulies 2 is a pure party favorite.

The movie was released straight-to-video following the single in 1988 through Empire Pictures. This wasn't Blackie's first rodeo with Empire Pictures. In 1985 he and the members of W.A.S.P. made a cameo as Satan's house band in Dungeonmaster. But it doesn't even stop there, Blackie and the boys even made a brief appearance in 1986's TerrorVision, where they can be seen on television as someone is channel surfing. What is with Blackie's dying devotion to Empire Pictures? I wish I held the key to unlock these mysteries.

The best part of 'Scream Until You Like It' is how heartfelt Blackie sounds in the beginning when he admits he had a hard time seeing these puppets get put back into boxes at the end of the video shoot. Rumor has it that Blackie actually owns one of the original Ghoulies from the movie. One must wonder which Ghoulie ended up winning over Blackie's heart, was it the Cat Ghoulie, Flying Ghoulie, Toad Ghoulie, Rat Ghoulie or Fish Ghoulie? All I know is that it's comforting to hear that this raw meat-spitting, heavy metal-helldorado had such a soft spot for these little creatures of the night.

Lord knows what kind of mischief those two get into when Blackie returns home from tour!

I can think of no one better to commence TNUC's month-long Splatter Fest than an overweight and out-of-shape Leatherface. He's always been a bit big-boned, but in this clip its pretty clear that Leatherface eats ALL of his groceries and by groceries of course I mean humans. Who knew cannibalism could produce so many complex carbohydrates? Press play and watch our plump friend gaze out on the empty lake while doing some self-reflecting....then wait to see what gift he gives us in the end. Maybe teasing him about his apparent weight problem wasn't the best idea. Some little bra-stuffer will pay.

This merely claws the surface of activity at CAMP TNUC this season. Your parents should have already received their CAMP TNUC brochures months ago, so there's no excuse why you teens and scream queens shouldn't be rolling out your sleeping bags and claiming your cabin on our turf. Look for TNUC pulling up in his shiny new yellow Trans Am, already in a sour mood, complaining about the dust from the road embedding in his polished new tires. Also look for Cyndi, Stephanie, Betti, Tiffany, Todd and Marko pulling up in their 85' Bronco, blasting some Dokken. Once again, the "regulars" have already showed up including the dumbfounded jock, bullying bitch, computer class weakling, sleazy cook, the whore, the understanding camp counselor, the fat kid and of course no shortage of masked maniacs and deformed misfits running about the woods. Just the way we like it.

Keep a close eye on the CREATURE PRESENTATIONS column on the right for all Los Angeles-based horror movie events this month. More importantly, stay tuned and don't stray from the path because we have plenty of deadtime stories, more CAMP TNUC trailers, a brand new slasher mixtape, archery, raft-building, fishing, rowing, wood-chopping, joint rolling and.....whats that? A new music video, perhaps?

THE BEER WOLF.

He's one loose partyin' dude in a loose partyin' mood. But he wasn't always that way. Legend has it that back in 1983, when the fine folks at the Coors Brewing Co. let him loose to the public, he was a much different, darker wolf. Initially the people at Coors marketed him as a throwback to "The Wolfman" from the 40's and as you can imagine, the Beef Wolf was not the bitchin' wolf you see in the picture. The babe-chasing, beach volleyball playing, beer shotgunning wolf we know so well just didn't exist.

Because this early Beer Wolf was referenced to early black & white horror films and comics, he appeared old and tired, definitely not the typeof wolf you'd invite over to help tap your keg. This amateur Beer Wolf required a complete overhaul if he wanted to be noticed.

Well in 1986, the Beer Wolf must have grown out his pubes and started working out because he exploded on the scene and was immediately the Hunkiest wolf in every city and in every town. The Coors "Silver Bullet" mascot was now a household name and noticeable differences included lighter colored fur, yellow eyes, big lips and even sometimes neon sunglasses. This new and improved Beer Wolf always ended each picture with a big smile to show that he's always cool and ready to party. Just look at him howling in on these partygoers during a St. Patrick's Day celebration.

With this change, this new wolf proved to be sexier by fans. Coors went on to be hugely successful during Halloween, when "Elvira, Mistress of the Dark" joined the Beer Wolf campaign and posed for a complete photoshoot with the hairy ol' stud. Promo items were introduced such as plushies, pins, dishware, T-shirts, bar ads, posters, stickers, costumes and even underwear. Also, one of the best moments for the Beer Wolf was when Coors released werewolf statues in bars and supermarkets, which had a cassette tape player that people could hear the happy voice of Beerwolf recorded in cassette.

Sadly as we all know, the 90's came around and tables were turned. The Beer Wolf stopped making appearances and the losers at Coors abandoned our friend. The final merchandise was shipped to stores around 1992, and these days the only items that remain can be hunted down either on auction sites like Ebay or in flea markets. Currently, the TNUC lair holds the Elvira poster, a party/beach t-shirt and a neon sign. Who knows, maybe one day TNUC will buy the rights to the Beer Wolf and we can see this beer-loving, good-time-having, sexy ball of fur rise again.

SOLITARY PURSUITS.

No, the physically fit man in the above picture with his legs stretched out, looking like he's pondering life's essential questions is NOT Aaron David Ross (ADR) of Gatekeeper fame. Believe it or not, thats a rare, early photo of Tony Little, the blonde ponytailed muscular madman that is the poster boy for the Gazelle workout system. Tony Little and ADR have nothing to do with one another that I know of, but I just thought the photo worked well for this post.

ADR is most known in the musical world for being 1/2 of slasher-disco icons Gatekeeper but on September 19th, Public Information will release his debut solo record Solitary Pursuits. I'll get right to the point, each of the 8 tracks give off heavy atmosphere, as stated by several press reviews already. I had an interesting experience listening to this release...

Immediately I was catapulted to sitting in my basement on the carpet when I was 6 years old, listening to these Science-y cassette tapes covering different obscure plant species of the jungle that my Mom bought for me. These tapes were designed to educate and teach kids about some of the other much-less-talked-about life in the jungle, plants. Each tape featured one specific plant and came with a little picture book that you were supposed to follow along with as you listen. I distinctly remember pressing play for the first time and hearing some of the deadliest squeaks, bleeps, tweaks and creeps that I had ever heard in my life. Theres no way that any child between the ages of 5 and 12 listened to those tapes all the way through and didn't walk away requiring psychiatric help. I remember having the neighborhood kids come over for a jungle-plant-educational-session just to prove to them how frightening they really were. To this day I still have a pretty clear recollection of what the pulsating sounds were like. What the creators of these tapes probably didn't realize was that kids were experiencing night terrors and hallucinations from the bizarre and brooding atmospherics that some composer rested over these little tales about plants in the rainforest.

I've tried hunting down these tapes for years but have had no luck. If for some reason your parents also assaulted you with jungle-plant-terrors as a child or have any information on them, please let me know. Oh, don't forget to stream ADR's Soliary Pursuits in full below.

ENCINO, CALIFORNIA 1992.

I can think of 3 films that immediately come to mind when picturing how my fascination with California lifestyle and California state-of-mind started and those films are The Lost Boys, The Wizard and Encino Man. When TNUC was a young brut, these movies shaped my vision of California, or what I at least could imagine the coastal state being like. The Wizard marked the beginning and birth of the fascination, with the little Nintendo wiz-kid's struggling journey to California seeming almost dreamlike. Lucas Barton's trench coat, oversized Vision Street Wear shirts, puffed blonde hair and of course his blessed POWER GLOVE became TNUC's pubescent-era essentials. Things rapidly change course with The Lost Boys. This film gave TNUC the sleep all day/party all night/never grow old/never die attitude that was previously described in full detail here.

Finally we come to Encino Man. The sun-drenched shots of this Valley city that are portrayed in the movie combined with the day-to-day action that these characters engage in were enough convincing to realize that this was home. Mini-Mart mornings and Magic Mountain afternoons were the essence of my upbringing. Without raiding these local mini-marts to stock up on junk food, harassing the foreign employees and combing Ventura Blvd for Betty Nuggs (babes), I would be a ship lost at sea. Lastly, lets not forget Blades, a place where one could play ice hockey, find an endless supply of Betty Nuggs or play arcade games such as Rad Mobile. Ahhhh, home sweet home. PSYCHEMAGIK.

Everyone can relate to the feeling of discovering a new artist/band that with every song you pull out of their catalogue, one by one they keep getting better. Psychemagik, a DJ duo from a cosmic forest in the UK (their words), had me at the first .02 seconds of their edit of the Talking Heads classic, This Must Be the Place. Just when you thought the original song couldn't be anymore tropical sounding, the DJ duo enrich it, casting a galloping, island adventure feel over the track that encompasses everything going on in the above picture, plus way more. Imagine this song playing on a remote island where girls donned in loin cloths ride tigers down the beach, bringing you the finest local coconut rum you've ever tasted.

The fun continues with their edit of Fleetwood Mac's Everywhere. The build up they create to the chorus is almost supernatural and has TNUC almost spilling his lunch. Once it hits you, you feel no pain. Great edits like this one give you a new perspective on the original song and begin the love for it all over again.

Jürgen Müller, b. 1948 in Hamburg, Germany.

Jürgen Müller was a self-taught amateur musician who, while studying oceanic science at the University of Kiel, purchased some electronic instruments and set up a mobile studio on his house boat, docked along the town of Heikendorf, on the North Sea. He held a life-long fascination with the ocean, the expansive and endless inner-space of the deep, where he felt many ecological miracles had yet to be discovered, and which kindled a love for the unknown. This love of all things nautical started early in his youth and eventually led him to study the oceanic sciences.

For one week in 1979 Jürgen took up with a film crew on a mission to document some sea-water toxicity testing that was being performed by a couple of notable biologists, only a few kilometers off the shore. This was to air as a special later to be viewed in universities. Jürgen went to take notes for a course, but soon found himself instead moved by the surroundings more in an artistically inspired sense than a scientific one. He found the mystery and romance of the great seas to be quite moving, and then decided rather abruptly that he would make music to capture this feeling.

Utilizing only a handful of barely-remembered childhood piano lessons, Jürgen set about creating his marine-influenced vignettes with some electronic instruments he had gathered through friends, as well as borrowing some new equipment from a local school’s music department. As a general music lover, earlier in the '70s he had taken note of several avant garde electronic composers who he felt simultaneously captured a purity of sound and sense of wonder that was lacking in other music. He dreamt of fusing this ideal with the synthetic recreations of nature. In a sense, one could say he stumbled onto an early “new age” aesthetic through pure ignorance and coincidence. Mixing relaxing ambient tones and spooky otherworldly sounds, he came up with a unique approach. After filling several reels of home recordings he held ambitions of becoming a film composer. He decided to start his own publishing company, Neue Wissenschaft, and hoped to compose albums in order to sell as production music to various film companies for use in documentaries and television programs. As he was simultaneously hard at work on his studies to finish school, he had to work on his music in short intervals, and often had to put it aside altogether. As a result, it took several years for him to actually realize his sole full-length recording, Science of the Sea, the sessions for which began in late 1981, before finishing a year later. Less than 100 copies were pressed, and few of them were even sent out to potential clients. Most copies were eventually given to friends and family.

Jürgen’s musical gamble never quite paid off as he had hoped, and without any outside interest or connections in the music world, he soon abandoned any dreams of a musical existence and instead chose to further his oceanographic career. Remastered from the original tapes by Brad Rose with help from Norman Chambers.

In the past few years, there's been an explosion of artists attempting to recreate the sound + vision from our favorite decade. During the latter part of the MySpace explosion, TNUC was a lost in a bevy of cheap, party-store fog and found much of the music sounding pretty generic. Some time passed, and while there were still great projects emerging, many on the other hand started to become stale.

Out of this collective i'm referring to, one man that continued to improve and now reigns victorious is Mitch Murder. After listening to his 2010 full length album, 'Burning Chrome', it was clear to me that few can capture the spirit and keep it alive like Mitch. His sound is pure, refreshing and in no way feels "retro".

Out of all the exquisite tracks from the record, it was Beach Interlude, and its video, that pulled me back into Mitch's whirling vortex and allowed me to rediscover his music. Watching this video is almost therapeutic. The other reason? The mighty Top Gun celebrates its 25th anniversary with a 70mm screening TONIGHT (Thursday) at the Aero Theater in Santa Monica, CA. There are slim chances in life of you ever having the privledge of catching Maverick, Iceman, Goose, Viper, Slider, Jester, Cougar, Wolfman, Sundown, Merlin, Hollywood, Stinger, Chipper, Kelly McGillis's eyebrows and a very questionable beach volleyball scene in glorious 70mm print. Be there!

Ah, summertime in Santa Carla, California. Once the birthplace of TNUC, and now memories which bring back day trips on our Yamaha's, ripping down the beach to the yearly carnival. The fried dough, cotton candy and corn dogs could be smelt a mile away. Street vendors, piercing booths, airbrush t-shirt stands and hardbodies graced the busy streets.

This friendly, inviting, sandy corner of California was quite a different scene when night fell. Believe me, TNUC should know, he's been banned from the boardwalk since 1987. Before that time, we ran the boardwalk and were the symbol and spirit of teenage invincibility. Hell, even the carny workers listened to us.

It would start out with a pretty typical friday night. I'd be greasing up the Yamaha in Old Man Covington's garage, periodically checking in on him, waiting for him to finish that last drop of whatever snake-piss he got himself into that night. As soon as he knocked out and I had fed my pet Iguana, I would roll the motorbike ever-so quietly out of the driveway, the only slight noises would be coming from the tires rolling over the black, slick pavement from last night's rain.

Cue the late night warrior roam. Like a hungry heard of stylin' bison, we would take the night on with a vengeance, and we weren't the only ones. All the cave dwellers would come out when the sun went down. Stylistically speaking, wardrobe malfunctions just didn't exist during those days. Donning a leather trench coat, one dangling cross earring, a torn up mesh shirt and gloves w/ cutoff fingertips would start you out in the right direction. Some fresh bleach through the hair and a sharp switchblade wouldn't hurt either. Once you were ready to take on the night, the possibilities were endless. Maybe you'd start out intimidating people on the merry-go-round...and then work your way up to having a "feast around the fire". We can't divulge too much information here to the public, but lets just say, it all depended on how far you were willing to go.

This is a first person account of my journey into The Final Eclipse:

Deep in the Mediterranean, a light, misty rain filled the air and a crisp breeze blew in from the sea. I lit my cigarette and continued to stroll down the empty beach, the faint scent of lotion, oils, and hardbodies from the day accented the strong smell of the sea and the wet sand. Tonight was not a starry night for the sky was shrouded in a thin, vaporous fog. Pericing through the sky was a lunar eclipse which gave the beach a rather peculiar glow and set the tone for this magical encounter.

I heard a distant echo reverberating over the sea, reaching out, calling to me. Off in the distance, was a beautiful villa on a cliff overlooking the Mediterranean. I approached closer and closer to this mysterious villa and the sound became clearer and clearer. I noticed swirling smoke emanating from a balcony, pouring from a scantly lit dark blue room. When I finally made it to the villa the front door was open leading directly to the stairwell. The music stopped, all I heard was the breeze blowing through the windows, waves crashing against the nearby cliffs, and my own footsteps reverberating as if by design, throughout this majestic villa.

I opened the door leading to the balcony and saw curtains blowing, candles lit, the lighting was scantly blue. A soft rain was pelting against the windows, a fireplace surrounded by brass vases of various sizes warmed up the room. I sat down in a velvet chair, oblivious to the fact that I was about to experience a journey of intrigue, of passion, of sunshine, of THE NIGHT that could only come out of a place like this. Almost on cue, SPIROS walked in, like a phantom. Effortlessly he grabbed a record, put it on the record player and dropped the needle. He pressed play, the vinyl cracked and this began THE FINAL ECLIPSE.

Just when you thought these two meatballs couldn't possibly do anymore damage than they've already done in the motion picture business and bodybuilding culture, here they are with their bonafide one-and-only hit, 'I'am A Wild One'. Peter Paul and David Paul (The Barbarian Brothers) recorded this to promote their debut film, The Barbarians back in 1987. The musical meatheads were aided by famed soundtrack artist Michael Sembello, who you will hear singing the hook. As you know, Michael is best known for his song, 'Maniac' off the Flashdance soundtrack. He also worked on music for Gremlins and The Monster Squad, among others. My favorite aspect of The Barbarians was that it took place during medieval times yet the two goons have Brooklyn accents. If you are the kind of person that likes 1980's neanderthal vocals mixed with 2nd-grade lyrics, then without further ado, we proudly present 'I'am A Wild One' to you.

Premiering a full-course meal such as the video for THE OUTRUNNERS 'DIAMONDS' leaves us with a good helping of leftovers. Today's discovery comes in a 1987 commercial for Pizza Hut entitled "The Test". The atmospheric sounds that play over extreme-close-ups of building a pizza create a super-serious mood that would have been appropriate for one of those early science videos they made you watch in elementary school.

Wet Magazine was "an avant-garde Los Angeles-based magazine that revolved around the idea of gourmet bathing and later evolved to gourmet bathing and beyond". Its creator was an architecture school graduate by the name of Leonard Koren. The interesting point of this magazine is that all the articles were related to water---seltzer, hot springs, ocean. Wet lasted 32 issues from the years 1976 - 1981.

Which brings us to the following. Around the late 1980's while TNUC was flying around the country in luxurious private jets and being served grade-A icing on gold and platinum records, news came that several TNUC Jr.'s were running around the states without any sign of a father figure in their lives.

Over the years, TNUC caught wind that one particular offspring of his had been kicked out of every Southern California high school, been caught stealing breakfast burritos from mini-marts and even was arrested numerous times for "Mopary" (exposing yourself to a blind person). People who have come across him have questioned the boy as TNUC's possible nephew, others proclaimed that he was his red-headed-bastard stepchild, while after a case-study, scholars found that he was truly the product of TNUC's omnipotent semen. Italo / Canadian composer Gianni Rossi, once considered the World's top session keyboardist, has had his share of ups and downs. By the age of 25 he had scored several minor dance hits in Central America. He owned condos on both sides of the Atlantic and a private jet to get him back and forth. But by 30 he was in a penitentiary somewhere in Eastern Europe - where he would remain for 15 years. In 2009, After a failed political career and many trips to Betty Ford clinics, Rossi returned to the spotlight with "Gutterballs: The Original Motion Picture Score". The highly original disco-rock sound captivated the world - though Rossi soon found himself back in rehab. But now he's back again, working once more with director Ryan Nicholson on his latest slasher film "Star Vehicle". "Star Vehicle: The Original Motion Picture Score" is classic Rossi, seamlessly blending cinematic electro-disco and rock in ways never before imagined.

Deepest apologies for the lack of updates lately. There has been a hotbed of activity over at TNUC Laboratories in the past few weeks...working on NEW feature presentations for 'TNUC Home Video' and eating way too much oozy-cartoon-looking pizza. We're also tossing different ideas around for paraphernalia to give to you keepers of the good book this year. So far T-shirts, slap bracelets, single Road Warrior-esque shoulder pads, beer koozies, stickers and dangling-cross "T" earrings are currently being discussed at a classified board meeting at headquarters.

But today, the focus is on a distinct group of individuals we like to call Italian Mustached Strangers of the Night (IMSOTN). These minimally facial-haired phantoms are most likely seen leaving Italo Disco clubs in the early morning hours, then hopping in sports cars to drive to their villas to catch the sun coming up with a lucky lady (or two) by their side. During the golden era of Italo and Euro Disco, they were the front runners and torchbearers of this exquisite brand of music.

Before we get into the heavy stuff, here are a few ground rules so that you don't get a true IMSOTN confused with a poseur-tryhard-hipster-pubescence:

1) Mustache thicker and tighter than eyebrow.

2) Skin is deeply tanned, Mediterranean style. Not pasty and pale.

3) Sporting accessoires of gold such as necklaces, sunglasses, bracelets, earrings or dolphin rings. Not wannabe smart horn-rims and cheap plastic retro toys like a retro digital watch.

4) Ride a fast Italian or American sports car. Not an altered wheelchair called a fixiebike.

5) Hang around at the beach, gym or a venturous discotheque. Not the library, vernissage or an indie concert.

Take for example, Casablanca. Even though they allegedly hail from Germany, the IMSOTN craze struck on all continents, and these strangers could well have been your next door neighbors. If you want to truly educate yourself and fathom the IMSOTN style, click on this picture and look at the guy on the right, in the all-white jumpsuit. You will now fully comprehend. Casablanca's 1987 single Angel of Night is a war cry for all IMSOTN.

In 1985, weather you were a graduate, dropout or just a degenerate party animal at Georgetown University, the only spot needed to release those inner-becoming-an-adult-anxieties was at St. Elmo's Bar. Especially a hot spot in the winter months, St. Elmo's was also THE primary destination if you wanted to catch the tough-as-nails new act Billy Hixx & The New Breed. Like many of us who leave college and feel lost in the working world, frat-boy Billy Hicks is unable to keep a steady job but has the ability to release his inner-demons through the saxophone. Billy also faces problems with his marriage and has a hard time giving up his "ladies man" persona.

Billy Hixx's saxophone-fused rock is exactly what this crowd needs to let loose and become children of the night. His sweaty style of saxophone is packed with attitude and a war cry of freedom. While St. Elmo's Fire is an easy movie to track down, the song Billy is playing in the clip is exceedingly rare. It was originally a b-side on the John Parr 'Man in Motion' single and remains to this day as one of the best things to filter out of the movie. David Foster, who wrote the majority of the music from the film, wrote and performed the song in the studio. Stream + download the track below but prepare to drown in a sea of sweaty sax.

Based on actual events, the story behind the 1983 film Antarctica revolves around a group of Japanese arctic explorers who travel to the white continent for research. The explorers befriend a pack of dogs who actually end up saving their lives during one of the harsh treks of their journey. The 3 scientists and 20 dogs pulling a sleigh over icy mountains form an emotional bond as they struggle through the rough conditions of this cold and bleak land.

Enter Vangelis. Most recognized for his unforgettable work on Bladerunner and Chariots of Fire, his score for this obscure and touching Japanese film is one of his finest pieces of work to date. Vangelis provides the story of the film, as well as the breathtaking shots of Antarctica and its wildlife, with drawn-out, icy melodies that convey the frigidness of this continent's silent greatness.

The film takes a tragic turn when the explorers are forced to leave the continent due to severe weather conditions. This forces them to leave the dogs behind, which makes the explorers even more depressed when they return home after feeling so powerless to do anything about it. The following summer, they choose to revisit Antarctica and find that two of the dogs have miraculously survived all this time. As they are reunited with the dogs, Vangelis' score shines victoriously. There are scenes with the dogs fishing for food, running across the ice and even shots of the magnetic phenomenon known as Aurora Australis (southern lights) which as you can imagine, is pure magic when accompanied by the atmospheric sounds of Vangelis.

Today TNUC begins assaulting you with VIDEO ARMAGEDDON. This will be an on-going feature on the site, spotlighting forgotten and short-lived video game wonders.

In 1986, the same year the film hit theaters, Cobra was released by Ocean Software for the video gaming system Commodore 64. Ocean Software was notorious for releasing video game adaptations of films. In the game, you are Marion Cobretti and your mission is to protect top fashion model Ingrid Knutsen from the ruthless maniac known as 'The Night Slasher'. You begin the game with no weapon and are forced to head-butt whoever comes in your way, which sends them flying across the screen. Weapons are hidden inside hamburgers which enables you to pick up either a knife, pistol or a vicious laser-sighted machine gun.

Due to a rush during its release, the game only features three levels. Because of this, there is no final boss to fight in the end of the game so once the three levels of the game are completed, the game repeats! The levels, or "playfields" are CITYSCAPE (night-time), COUNTRYSIDE (day-time) and THE FACTORY.

The best part of the game that I can see from here is the music score which was created by Ben Daglish. Play the clip below to hear how he arranges the classic Sylvester Levay song from the original film, "Skyline". A link to a download of the original track from the movie is below the clip.

This familiar video intro belongs to Vestron Video, a company that was considered to be a pioneer in the early VHS home video market. Vestron even played a big part in distributing many of the Cannon Films movies we hold so dear to our hearts. Presented today is not only the awe-inspiring, earth-shattering VHS intro you might remember, but also 3 other entrancing versions of it as well. God bless whoever did this. Someone had the brains and the balls to go ahead and tweak the intro a bit, providing a sped-up version, followed by a slowed-down version and last but not least, a backwards version of the crushing intro.

As the end of each year approaches, TNUC Enterprises continues to be surrounded by John Candy films. Aside from the obvious Thanksgiving theme in Planes, Trains and Automobiles, for some reason most of his movies fit most comfortable and work so well around the holidays.

Released in 1989, Uncle Buck shows Candy playing the most sincere and genuine character he's ever played in a movie, and he does it with ease. You instantly fall in love his character and everyone I know can always associate Buck with someone they know in their lives. The combination of John Hughes's writing and John Candy's on-screen abilities delivers an untouchable realness that so many filmmakers fail to accomplish these days (be sure to read our post about John Hughes too). It's also appropriate that this movie came to the big screen in 1989, at the close of the most triumphant decade in film, music and pop culture.

Hugh Harris - Rhythm Of Life [Uncle Buck] by TNUC

This song is pulled from the utterly-epic and touching final scenes of Uncle Buck, when Buck says his goodbyes to the young girl in the film and gives one of the finest freeze-frame faces ever to be capured on screen. Not many times in cinema does an actor deliver a performance where you forget at times that he/she is really acting. Hugh Harris's 'Rhythm Of Life' will surely get your heart pumping and make you want to raise a holiday beer in the air. The piano intro, pummeling drums and unexpected saxophone are so powerful that they leave many people weeping a little as they see Buck take a final bow before the closing credits arrive.

The patrons inside the Brooklyn Bowl thought they were just out for another night of fun, laughter, and live music.....the ones that survived will never forget that terrifying evening.

It was just another typical fall saturday night at the alley. The bar was packed, the lounge was occupied by beautiful women, and the lanes were crowded with bowlers and onlookers. The dance floor in front of the stage was packed with all walks of life displaying their favorite dance moves. As the house music faded and lights dimmed to a faint glow, a certain unease filled the air. The silhouette of a man crept out from the shadows of the stage and took a seat behind an array of keyboards. The sounds that began unfolding out of these machines stopped the patrons and bowlers dead in their tracks.

The unnerving sounds and pulsating rhythms were being produced by none other than Steve Moore himself. Instead of performing songs from his vast catalogue, Moore created one long movement that was equal parts Unsolved Mysteries and dance floor worthy. Some were so frightened they could not move and others became possessed by the beat. Either way, he captivated the alley by inducing the people in a trance.

Here at Camp TNUC we are big supporters of Steve Moore and all his efforts, but can you imagine the people who had no idea what they were about to experience?! Even as a fan you can never be too sure......I'm sure a few high games were jeopardized and first dates became real creepy. However this is right up our alley (no pun-intended)

I wonder if he considered playing the soundtrack to the bowling horror film, Gutterballs, as his alter-ego Gianni Rossi?

First of all, he's singing THE greatest montage song ever created by man. Robert Tepper EXPLODES in this performance of the classic song from Rocky IV with a full dosage of Grampa's old 100% pure adrenaline...with maybe some cocaine sprinkled on top, lets be honest. This electrifying performance with facial expressions that would give Gary Busey a run for his money, also comes complete with pelvic thrusts, a mullet that should require some sort of permit, fog, extreme fist-pumps, strobe lights and a guitar solo that makes my fingers burn just watching. Personally, I haven't been to enough Bobby Tepper concerts to tell you if each and every performance is like this one.

Start paying immediate attention at around the 2:43 mark in the clip. Tepper slows things down, moistening some panties of the crowd and questioning in his mind about how much white lightning he has left in the dressing room. Then its time for him to turn things back up. Now watch closely at his ability to bring things back to the absolute rampage that is this performance. With a menacing look on his face and an epic left-handed fist-pump, he reclaims his title for COOLEST MAN ALIVE.

Experiencing symptoms of post-Halloween depression? It happens. Thankfully we have devotees like SPIROS who swoop in and offer musical selections and allow us to escape the murky swamp that is the month of November. If you're reading this and still are unfamiliar with who or what SPIROS is, you need to do some homework here and here.

Per TNUC's request, SPIROS dove deep into the remote caverns of the Mediterranean and came out with a hauntingly beautiful "way-slo" version of the Annie Lennox classic 'No More I Love You's'. The Mediterranean wonder of the world has taken an already obscure song and transformed it into something you will never forget. Back story:

At the start of the month, I drove my Harley up to visit Grandmother TNUC who resides up north. We hadn't spoken since 1987, and little did I know if she was even still alive. Old people are usually ending up dead all the time so naturally I was very skeptical pulling up to her old creakily house by the lake. As I finally approached the house, I could see the old buzzard doing yard-work and a sigh of relief washed over me. Grandmother TNUC may have looked like a corpse, but she was still hanging in there! Anyways, she had many complaints about my long luscious locks of gold, my never-been-washed leather pants, snakeskin boots and of course, the biggest complaint.....my one dangling cross earring.

Still, she welcomed me inside and told me that she had been trying to contact me for years, but didn't know anything about my whereabouts. She informed me that there was something very special in the basement that I needed to exhume from beneath her house before she passed and it would be too late. Being the cellar dweller that I am, I rushed to the basement and did a radical slide down the handrail to the stairs. The basement had to be below freezing temperatures. I remembered it always smelling like moth balls, peppermint candies and shoe polish down there, but today there was nothing. Just the cold. Its a good thing I had my leathers on! There was a faint-purple light coming from the far corner of the room. I could feel a warmth as I moved slowly towards the light. I approached what seemed to be a glowing warmth coming up from the dirt. Only small cracks in the ground were allowing the purple glow to glimmer. I began digging through the ground, not knowing what to expect. At last I came upon what felt in my hands like a cassette tape! The light flickered and stopped.

The tape was dirty, mangled and didn't show any signs of life. I ran upstairs and when Grandmother TNUC saw I had the tape in my hands, she gasped for air and was screaming that I needed to go home and burn it for all eternity. She confessed that her house was built on ancient Native American burial grounds and that the tape was cursed. Hearing this, I became ravenous, anxious and intrigued. I lied and told her I would burn it, then took off on my Harley and rode to someone's house who I knew would be able to bring this tape back to life.

Mr. Eccesso Barbino, who agreed to have his name featured here but wished not to divulge any information about himself, is an Italo-phantom who specializes in projects just like this one. He told me that within a week the tape would be cleaned off, ready to play and we would all be cursed for sure. So just one week later, I returned, loaded the tape in my walkman, put my muffs around each ear, AND THESE ARE THE 13 HARMONIOUS CUTS THAT BEAT THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS OUT OF MY EARS. TNUC'S CURSED HALLOWEEN TAPE!

In 1986, Italian horror mastermind Lamberto Bava unleashed Demoni (Demons) to audiences worldwide. The plot revolves around a clan of bloodthirsty demons that take over a movie theater and demand the flesh of each and every movie-goer. The members of the audience, including a few innocent teenies, a blind guy and an unforgettable pimp, must all fight to stay alive. Even a few cocaine-fueled local ruffians show up to take part in the gorefest, and one of them (the leader) could absolutely be Sylvester Stallone's retarded twin.

As the above photo suggests, Demons is one of the ultimate films to catch on the big screen if you can. With the film's setting being a movie theater, a certain mood is set in which you, as a fellow cinema patron much like the victims, feel part of the gruesomeness. And did I mention classic scenes such as a girl's face bursting and puss-spewing as she transforms into a demon? Or the lead male character severing the limbs of demons with a sword while riding a dirt-bike?

...On top of that completely annihilating trailer is a soundtrack to the film that features a number of hard-pumping tunes from Motley Crue, Billy Idol, Saxon, The Scorpions, Rick Springfield and Accept. In the middle of all these hard-rocking hits is an even more important original score by ex-Goblin keyboardist Claudio Simonetti. This movie has it all. SPOTLIGHT: PERCY RODRIGUES.

OK, besides 'Unsolved Mysteries' host Robert Stack, and maybe the 'Monster Truck Rally' voice-over guy, this man, Percy Rodrigues, has the most electrifying and spine-chilling voice i've ever heard. Rodrigues was the go-to guy for 70's and 80's horror movie trailers and you can hear him in trailers for some of the best films of the genre; 'Jaws', 'Return of the Living Dead', 'Chopping Mall', 'Children of the Corn', 'Creepshow 2', 'The Gate', 'Popcorn', 'Night of the Creeps' and a couple 'Friday the 13th' films.

His rich, deep voice combined with incredible dramatic pauses made for the perfect delivery. Forget about heavy metal singers trying to sound tough and evil, you could give Rodrigues a summary about flowers & lambs and a microphone and he could scare the pants off anyone, with calmness and ease.

From the opening titles of the film, no time is wasted in kicking you into an almost hypnotic state, bringing immense feelings of isolation. The atmosphere of this film is already heavy. Society and any trace of civilization are left far behind. The camera swoops over a lake and finds itself following a VW Beetle through endless windy road. Then we're flown over tall pines, mountainsides and snow-brushed land. Only miles of bleak landscape and the vast unknown lie ahead.

The eerie concoction of Stanley Kubrick's magnificent style of filmmaking plus Wendy Carlos's daunting score create an ambiance that is unforgettable. To me, out of the two driving scenes to the hotel, the following track from the film's soundtrack was always just a little more frightening. 'Rocky Mountains' plays during the Torrance family's long drive up to the hotel when they're having a discussion about the mountain air....and cannibalism.

GATEKEEPER: CHAINS.

Fresh off the bus that just pulled into these dusty campgrounds (see previous post) is Gatekeeper with their new video for Chains. Each of the 6 tracks from their upcoming EP 'Giza', will be accompanied by a video directed by Thunder Horse Video, which will be released on a limited edition VHS tape. Chains is video 1 of 6.

Inspired by the sounds and visions of forgotten sci-fi film scores, fantasy games and arcade imagery, Gatekeeper has created its own morbidly deranged discotheque, a vivid flight of fancy in which the conventions of techno, Chicago house, italo-disco and industrial are transfigured into one phantasmagorical adventure, populated by hushed screams, Gregorian dungeon chants and cinematic washes of mammoth sound.

'Giza' finds the band advancing into more exotic, outlandish territory, as well as fusing their earlier disco leanings with a faster-paced, more club-oriented approach, demonstrated in the arcade biker theme of 'Chains', haunted melody swirls of 'Storm Column' and 'Serpent', or the feverish, nightmare-ridden after-hours romp of 'Mirage'.

A word to the wise: if you've got a tight little package, have a slightly obnoxious attitude and think skinny dipping alone in a lake at night is normal, then YOU are welcomed to a stay at Camp TNUC this October. All month long there will be no shortage of teenage mutilation, foggy lakes, masked psychopaths, bearded terror and little surprises around every corner.

Year after year, it never fails. The air is brisker, the days are darker, and the nights are longer. A yearning for being by a lake, growing a beard and chopping lumber fills my soul. The rustling of damp leaves and creaky floorboards are music to my ears. It's these things, plus of course the horror stereotypes and cliches, that fuel the campfire at Camp TNUC...

Cats jumping out of nowhere.
No one ever believing your story.

Ghouls, scream queens, creepers and creepettes, prepare yourselves for only the baddest and the raddest of treats all month long...all leading up to a mega-exclusive mix-tape at the end of the month being composed by a certain German humanoid (who's familiar around these parts) and a young band from Toronto, Canada. Delicious dance stylings, Ferraris, radical color schemes, extreme hair-flips and an army of pubescent youngsters make up the video to the new Lexicondon single, Student Body. The Binary-heartthrobs debut album, Pink + Blue, came out in August which you can get your filthy mits on here.

Besides being close clients of TNUC, this band is an unrelenting force to be reckoned with. Their infectious grooves and hooks, as heard on this song, are about as refreshing as a cold box of Hi-C Ecto Cooler after a hot afternoon building a fort with your neighborhood friends. When a man confronts you and says "life is a playground and I want someone to play with", do you become lost in his eyes and helpless to his warm embrace? GAMES: THAT WE CAN PLAY.

I know i'm not the only one who grew up with a father who swore by his new family-friendly, early-Macintosh computer and the obnoxious, banshee-level-of-noise printer that accompanied it. The sounds that resonated, or should I say, pummeled out of that little piece of early CPU technology were some of the most menacing and dissonant noises i've ever experienced, and they still haunt me to this day. Heaven help anyone entering my home between the years of 1989 and 1995 when that printer was in operation. Guests in my home would have swore that Cyberdyne Systems were overseeing brainwashed factory workers working long, grueling night shifts like slaves in some sort of industrial setting alongside heavy machinery, pulleys and repetitive, monotonous robotics. Of course I would tell my guests not to worry, and lead them down into the damp, musky cellar to see that it was merely a late-1980's/early-1990's printer making all the racket.

Which leads me to the Brooklyn-based outfit, GAMES. They are both lovers and embracers of the sounds/visions of basic technology and PC art. The pair are about to release their debut EP, That We Can Play on November 2nd through Hippos in Tanks. They are also planning to record a full-length effort by the end of the year in Jan Hammer's studio (yes, seriously). The following is an interview by Pitchfork which is a highly recommended read...

Pitchfork: How did the two of you meet?

Daniel Lopatin: We met in sixth grade. We were in the same science class. We teamed up for a 3D plaster of Paris project where we created a futuristic shopping environment that consisted of record stores only. It was like Monopoly, but you went around buying CDs and tapes. It made no sense and was REALLY heavy to carry. Joel's dad dropped us off at school and had to carry it in for us. I remember one time Joel got Metallica's Black Album on tape and we were super psyched to listen to it but when we got to Joel's house, we opened the case and(Green Day's) Dookie was inside. It was dark.

Pitchfork: How did the two of you come together as Games?

Joel Ford: We used to jam in Dan's basement on his dad's Juno-60 [synthesizer] and an Ensoniq SQ-2 [synthesizer] which we borrowed from our high school music department. I used the SQ-2 as a drum machine, manual/Kraftwerk style. That was really the first time we were seriously thinking about electronic music together. Years later, I was living in NYC doing Tigercity and Dan was in Boston getting OPN off the ground.

DL: We really wanted to keep collab-ing and at some point we found ourselves in the middle of an intense 72-hour internet writing frenzy. This was the beginning of Games. Our respective bands got super busy and it took us moving into an apartment together this year to really get the project going again. We did a week of demos during the summer of 2009 at Joel's parents' house in Massachusetts. This is basically when we discovered our sound and approach. We had a ridiculously sick collection of vintage synths that we amassed over the years.

Pitchfork: What would you say are your main musical influences?

JF & DL: DJ Paul, DJ Screw, Aphex Twin, DJ Premier, midfunk, Italo disco, the Weather Channel, Weather Report, Return to Forever, Boards of Canada, James Ferraro. [Gang Starr's] Moment of Truth and [Miles Davis'] On the Corner are huge records for us. DJ Premier and Teo Macero are two of our favorite producers. Their cuts and edits always recontextualize performances and samples in the most psychedelic way.

DL: [Gang Starr's] "Robin Hood Theory" is a blueprint-level jam for us. There's other, lesser discussed [DJ Premier] beats that are just as good, but Moment of Truth was a classic when we were in high school and really got us moving in the direction of samplers and stuff like that.

Pitchfork: Between the images on your Tumblr and MySpace, as well as the "Everything Is Working" video, you seem to favor a visual aesthetic for this music as well. Would you say you have a specific visual aesthetic you're drawing from?

DL: I'm super into dudes like Megazord, Jon Rafman, Rasmus Emanuel Svensson, Tabor Robak, and Michael Willis to name a few. We like shithoused Windows PC art and melted boomboxes and snowmobiles and corporate campus photos.

JF: Basically anything that reminds us of our dads at work.

Pitchfork: Daniel, how does your compositional approach to Games differ from your approach to your work as Oneohtrix Point Never?

DL: OPN is completely off the grid. Its like the slime underneath techno and other synth-oriented music. Games is like hardwired plumbing in the house of pop. It's not pop itself, its sort of like the behind-the-scenes arteries and capillaries of pop music. Games isn't REALLY pop music, and neither is OPN. Both are part of the same ecosystem and both deal with exploring the undercurrents of pop music.

Pitchfork: What's next for Games?

JF: Our EP That We Can Play comes out in late September/early October. The first single, "Strawberry Skies", is a Law & Order-inspired computer-funk jammer featuring [Brooklyn musician/singer] Laurel Halo.

DL: Joel's solo project Airbird is gonna drop real soon. We're going to Jan Hammer's studio in December to record the Games full-length LP.

Pitchfork: Wait, what?

JF: Jan Hammer's son lives in Brooklyn and happens to be a Tigercity fan. I met up with him recently and we're trying to work out the details of tracking synths for the Games full-length record at his dad's studio in upstate New York...We're honing in on the concept still, but it definitely involves athletic cuts and smooth jazz-fusion.
